Dead Space (2013)
Tags: Action 2013, Dead Space, dj caruso, Sci-Fi 2013
The Dead Space Movie is a film adaptation of the popular video game series about horrific creatures infesting a space ship. An engineer named Isaac Clarke boards the ship and uses futuristic engineering tools to dismember the creatures as he tries to discover the reason behind the infestation.
Director D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) is attached to the film, so a solid director with ties to Steven Spielberg is on board. Caruso has shown the talent to direct big action films with science fiction elements, so there may yet be hope for a decent film.
Who’s It For?
One of the main selling points of the game was that you had to dismember the creatures. Expect a hard ‘R’
Movie Release Date
Production hasn’t begun yet, so late 2013 at the earliest.
Who’s In It?
No casting yet, but with Caruso directing, Shia LaBeouf may end up playing Isaac Clarke. Crap.
What’s Good About It?
The game was cool and scary as hell. If the film keeps the same visual style, it could become the next Alien.
What’s Bad About It?
Anytime you have a video game adaptation, the odds are it’ll suck.
Our Clever Prediction
Horror is a genre where you can get away with a lower quality script. Dead Space would need a solid director to pull off the Sci-Fi elements. It’s no coincidence that Ridley Scott directed Alien. Keep your fingers crossed. Dead Space has potential like crazy.

In Hollywood it seems like when ever they make a video game/anime live action movie; they say “okay everyone, any ideas how we can piss off the fanbase?” I mean i cant recall any movie that i actually enjoyed that was based of a video game or anime, but i will say this. I still encourge them to make them or else how will they learn from their mistakes. I can only hope that dead space will be a good movie. I like the director and the movies he’s made so maybe that will help.
Why aren’t you writing movie previews for us?
FordFan90,
Dude, I respect your opinion but I have to disagree with you about the RE movies. They fucking sucked. They completely changed the entirety of the story with the inclusion of the hive in the first film. The second one screwed what made the third game awesome by reducing Nemesis to a killing machine with “feelings” and instilling a “live and let live” ideal. I’m sorry, but they should of destroyed Nemesis. I didn’t even bother with the last two movies because I didnt want to see how much more Hollywood could bastardize the franchise.
Dead Space got a lot of influence from the movie “Event Horizon” to an extent and that movie was pretty awesome. If they want to make an impressionable movie with what will be the base of the fans, the gamers, they need to stricly stick to the story of the entire dead space universe and not venture out in making some kind of run off story of thier own. I think if they made a movie based off the colony on Eiges 7 and thier discovery of the Red Marker, it would be awesome. They should also include stuff from the book, Dead Space: Martyr. The book covers the development of the Church of Unitology and its founder. Guaranteed if they started out with a bang by deliviering the back story in the fullest detail possible while still instilling the sense of mystery and unanswered questions, it would be amazing and would set up the need for the adaptations of Isaac Clarke’s story with following films. Thats my opinion.
if a movie where to be made, it would have to follow the story completely. especially if its a prequel to the new game, as the story is already set because the game and its events already happened. any change would just make it a different story. but who knows the people in hollywood, im sure, think they can make it “better”
this will be awesome i would love to see this game become a moive
The cool thing would be if they do it right would be since the character models for all the characters kendra hammond mercer amd kyne were all modeled after the actual actors that did there voices and ive seen movies with them in it they are good actors getting them would be key!
AJ,
AJ,
Its not about the first game its about what happens from end of dead space 1 to begining of 2
Hopefully Hollywood learned its lesson with Doom. I cried when i found out how they changed 80% of its script. If they stick to the game’s story to the letter, and have good effects/actors. It will be up there with the Resident Evil’s imo.
Well I love the game with a passion and expect the movie to keep to this games script/story But It wasn’t just about Isaac it was also (Spoilers ahead if you haven’t finished game) Kendra, Hammond, Mercer and Dr. Kyne and what Reasons/vid logs show whats been happening to explain to everyone whats happened leading into the events and also before the games story begin I’d love to have them start with the Comics that show the events of Finding the Marker and what happens on the colony before the game I feel it plays a big part within the Story But Can’t wait to see this movie but it will be hard to embody Isaac since he doesn’t speak or show much emotion hopefully they can hire the Voice actor from Dead Space 2 to act as Isaac for the movie and just swap him and a person who looks like Isaac when he’ll remove the helmet to show some emotion but Sorry for the rant or stupidity again love this game and don’t wanna see it destroyed like other gaming movies have done to previous titles
1st. if they keep the same game style, this will be an amazing movie!! do you happen to know if they’ll be putting in only the first game, or the second game as well? i know its a dumb question, considering its not even released, but itd be pretty nifty if they could put some parts in. all in all, im just hoping and praying that they keep the same style to it.

@Cyrus, I think they’re going to focus mostly on the first game, although they’ll no doubt flush out the story a bit. A film with basically one character fighting monsters could be scary, but it would likely fall flat in the story department. I’d expect it to be closer in style to a horror where a group of people tries to survive and the main character is searching for his lost love. No doubt they’ll mess around with the story because Hollywood writers think they’re smarter than everyone else.
I just hope they keep the visual style.
