Zero Dark Thirty is Katheryn Bigelow’s followup to her Oscar winning The Hurt Locker. Her new war film chronicles the hunt for Osama Bin Laden.
Osame Bin Laden was able to evade the incredible might of the United States Military for about a decade. This is essentially insane. He did it through brilliant uses of high and low tech means, and was essentially a ghost for years and years. His loyal followers never gave him up for all those years, but on May 2, 2011, the most dangerous terrorist and number one of pretty much everyone’s “Screw this Prick” list was taken down by US Special Operatives.
How did he stay hidden for so long? How did we eventually find him? These are the questions Zero Dark Thirty will ask.
Zero Dark Thirty
Zero Dark Thirty is being directed by Katheryn Bigelow, who made a BIG(elow) splash with her award-winning The Hurt Locker, for which she won the first female Oscar as a director. Mark Boal, her screenwriter for The Hurt Locker, scripted Zero Dark Thirty as well.

What’s Good About It?
Obviously Katheryn Bigelow is a talented lady. The Hurt Locker was pretty darn good, and her following it up with a film about the biggest manhunt in history sounds like all kinds of awesome. Her reuniting with Mark Boal just makes it sweeter.
What’s Bad About It?
My one issue with Bigelow is she strikes me as intelligent yet overly biased/prejudiced. Her intelligence leads to her making good arguments, but her bias about many aspects of war and the military prevent her from presenting a true image of war. She can be honest, but not necessarily accurate.
Our Clever Prediction
I expect awards galore for Zero Dark Thirty, and a solid box office. It won’t compare with a film like The Hobbit, and I’m not sure it’ll be as big a hit as The Hurt Locker, but she has some solid actors like Jessica Chastain and Joel Edgerton so this might be a BIG(elow)er hit that I expect.
