The Wolverine (2012)

The Wolverine is the next installment into the ‘Wolverine’ movie series, starring Hugh Jackman. The movie has the potential to be an excellent addition to this series, but is it a love story?

The Wolverine

The Wolverine is a sequel to Wolverine (right, I know there was no need to repeat this). Well the good news is, there has been an official announcement on the next Wolverine movie. The bad news is, Wolverine 2 is going to be more of a love story, and has had its released date changed again. The new Wolverine movie is going to be released in 2012 now, no longer 2011.

The Wolverine sequel is based on the comics, and Logan’s love of a young lady in Japan. Apparently in ‘The Wolverine’, Logan travels to Japan to train with a Samurai warrior, and thats where he discovers his new love.

A beautiful love story about a man with claws, and who is ageless? While this follows the comic book (he fathers a child named Daken with a Japanese woman, in the comics) it doesn’t get us excited for a movie plot. But we’ve been wrong before, so I suppose we’ll have to give this a chance yet.

Rumor has it, the film is based around his love life, and is strictly based in Japan. The movie will most likely lead up to the eventual birth of his son, which would spawn many more movies in the future.

In the Wolverine official story, Logan embarks to Japan and falls in love with Mariko Yashida. Since nothing is easy, Mariko is the heiress to the Oyabun family, a powerful and lethal Yakuza crime family. We can only assume this is where Wolverine has to kick some ass, and take down 100′s of Ninjas.

Why you care

Wolverine is a great super-hero, even if his last movie sucked. Also, Hugh Jackman is perfecting his role as this clawed superhero, he gets better every time, even if the scripts to the new Wolverine Movies do not.

The Good

Hugh Jackman delivers a great Wolverine.

The Bad

Gavin Hood (Rendition) and Fox co-chairman and CEO Tom Rothman are in a pissing match about the direction Wolverine should take: uber-gritty darkness, or a kid friendly, lovable Wolverine.

Our Clever Prediction

We tend to pay for Superhero movies, no matter how bad they are (Spider-man 3, Silver Surfer), why would this new Wolverine movie be any different?

Can we please give it a rest with the Wolvie junk. He’s already had his movie. Heck, the first three XMen movies were more about him than all the rest of the XMen put together. Whats so great about him? If you think about it, he is invulnerable to all but Andimantium bullets and that doesnt even kill him. I want to see a courageous hero. Its not courage if you know that you cant die. you know its gonna hurt for a min but thats all, just a min. Why cant we have an origins: deadpool or magneto first? Better yet, make it a Gambit Origins. Show him growing up in the streets, being taken in by Mr. Lebeau. Show that weird moment in every young persons life when they realize something about themselves that they hadnt recognized before. His involving a good, big, explosion. Why not have him on the mound, pitchin in a neighborhood- theives guild baseball game, when he finds out how it works! the other team never would get to first base!!! Im not sayin leave other heros out of the movie. throw them in just like they were in Wolvie but let it center around the one who deserves a movie….GAMBIT!! This is the kinda movie we want, the kinda movie we need, the kinda movie it’s gotta be!!!!!

    Dudley ‘Booger’ Dawson,
Are there no real hardcore wolverine fans here ?
The comic book that this is going to be based on is the Mother off all bad ass superhero stories. It was the first wolverine solo story where his reputation as an badass, take no crap hero was established.
it also was one of frank millers first claim to fame stories (the first being daredevil).
the story line is as follows: Wolverine falls in love with japanese girl who is the daughter
of big yakuza/damiyo warlord with a ninja clan of his own.
Father don’t find wolverine worthy off his daughter and wolverine kills ninjas right and left to prove himself to daughter, father, himself.
it also was the first superhero story where the hero kills you if you get in his way. as oppose to just slapping your hand and arresting you.

so if you like the bad ass wolverine there is a good chance that this movie is going to please you (if they follow the comic book that is)
i’m old enough to remember super heros before this story and this one change it all.

Am I missing something? Why do I keep reading that wolverine was not a good movie? Everybody I know and have talked to about the movie loved it and thought it kicked a**.

Guilty as charged, I thought it was a terrible movie. You could tell they were building up Logan’s soft side, they keep digging up his past way too much as well. Hey, we get it, Logan was a military experiment, stop reminding us in EVERY FLIPPIN X-MEN MOVIE OR SPINOFF, WE AREN’T STUPID.

If he isn’t crying, falling in love, fighting his emotions or battling his obvious man-crush for Cyclops, he’s growling at the enemy.

So this time around he’s back to falling in love, because apparently we aren’t sick of it after his LAST 3 MOVIES. I’m starting to think Wolverine is a girl, with all these emotions and mood swings.

So yeah, I hated the last movie, and I’m a huge Wolverine comic book fan, so it hurts me to say that.

Am I missing something? Why do I keep reading that wolverine was not a good movie? Everybody I know and have talked to about the movie loved it and thought it kicked a**. It could have been a little longer but in no way was it a bad movie. I’ve watched probably a good couple of hundred movies, at least, since this movie came out and I’ve seen movies that sucked, this one did not. I actually own this movie and it gets watched at least once to twice a month. Anyone saying this movie was crap or sucked probably shouldn’t be publishing their reviews publicly and should be embarrassed. I rate the movie a classic, it was a classic immediately. But I agree they better not try to soften him up, he’s a dark character with a mysterious past and they should not stray from that, nobody wants a tamed cute and cuddly wolverine. He’s a beast, keep him that way.

Wolverine’s story has always involved a love interest. Yuriko, was alove interest; they showed her briefly in the 2nd X-men movie, Jean Gray… Duh. I don’t care what they show as long as it is about wolverine and has Hugh Jackman in it… :-)
