I’m not sure if this is good, or bad, but its still pretty important news for the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. I guess I have some issues with a couple of these casting choices.
The Dark Knight Rises
Just today, Warner Bros. released the news that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. Yeah, thats right.. Catwoman. I suppose, perhaps, I am still have fear that Catwoman is even in this movie. Is it because Halle Berry destroyed the character so badly back in 2004?
Also, can one of our Comic Book nerds, who read here daily, clarify why the new Catwoman is named ‘Selina Kyle’ and why she used to be called Patience Phillips? Thanks in advance!
Hathatway will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns to deliver another Batman performance, along with his hilarious voice that he does in the movies. ‘I’m Batman’ what? mumble .. mumble.. ‘I’M BATMAN!’
Bane
Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane in the new Batman Movie, coming July 20th 2012. Diehard Batman fans have mixed feelings about this character selection, I have no feelings either way. The only thing I do not understand (once again, help me out here) is… Bane was an enormous powerful villain in the Batman comics, apparently he even broke Batman’s back at one time.
So hey, help me out here if you can, I’m sort of confused.

Isn’t this what we just said?
Selina Kyle is NOT the “new” Catwoman. Catwoman in Batman comics has ALWAYS been Selina Kyle since the character was first created in the 1940′s. She was inspired by 1940′s film actress Heddy Lamar, and has been portrayed as everything from a former librarian, to an ex-prostitiute, to a professional cat-burglar turned vigilante. If you payed attention to Tim Burton’s 1992 sequel ‘Batman Returns,’ Michelle Pfeiffer was Selina Kyle in that film. The character of Patience Phillips played by Halle Berry in the 2004 ‘Catwoman’ film was a completely different character and had nothing to do with Batman. It doesn’t take much to figure this out. Look it up on Google.
As for Bane, his genesis can be traced back to the four-part story ‘Venom’ from the ‘Legends Of The Dark Knight’ comic series from the 1980′s. Batman briefly became addicted to a powerful synthetic steroid called “venom” that greatly increased a person’s strength and stamina at the cost of their sanity in the story. The villain ‘Bane’ was another recipient of the “venom” drug and was using it to boost his strength when he broke Batman’s back in the ‘Knightfall’ storyline. Understand?
Selina Kyle aka Cat Woman or “The Cat” has been so named since the Batman comics of the 1940′s. It was the Halle Berry film that introduced the character as Patience Phillips. The original Cat Woman storyline had her as simply a cat burglar… not the reanimated “Cat Woman” we’ve seen in recent films.
Cat Womans name was selina on tim burtons batman returns.
