The Bourne Legacy is a whole new chapter set in the same universe as the previous three Bourne films, only this time with a new hero.
There will be no Jason Bourne in this new Bourne film, which makes all kinds of sense. Except that it doesn’t.
Anyways, new star Jeremy Renner will play Aaron Cross, who was trained in the same program as Jason Bourne, but has his own story. There haven’t been a whole lot of details released for the story yet, and I assume that Cross won’t have the same memory loss as Bourne, but I’m not sure. He will be part of the Treadstone Operation, which is the black ops part of the CIA. So he’ll kick butt like Bourne.
The Bourne Legacy
Tony Gilroy will be directing, and he cowrote the screenplay with Dan Gilroy, who I assume is his brother. Tony wrote the original screenplay for The Bourne Identity, and he wrote the other two Bournes as well, so he should be able to keep the tone and concept consistent. Gilroy hasn’t directed much, but he has a fairly well-developed world, with a style of action and film-style so he should be able to keep things consistent.

What’s Good About It?
I enjoyed all the Bourne films, although the second and third were, in my opinion, far weaker than the first, and it seemed like the story of Jason Bourne was played out, so having a new story with a new character and a phenomenal actor like Jeremy Renner stepping in for Matt Damon should make The Bourne Legacy pretty cool.
What’s Bad About It?
The film won’t have Jason Bourne, and that may alienate fans of his films.
Our Clever Prediction
I expect The Bourne Legacy to do fairly well, and Renner is such a good actor with so much potential that this could be awesome. He’s playing Hawkeye in The Avengers in May, so he’ll get a lot of exposure there, which should help box office numbers for The Bourne Legacy.
