Superman: Man of Steel (2012)

Superman: Man of Steel is the next reboot of the ultimate comic book character.

No plot details have been revealed at this time. It is known that the film will not be a sequel to Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns or of the infinitely better Richard Donner films. However we do know who the new Superman is going to be! It’s Henry Cavill, the strapping young lad who played Charles Brandon on The Tudors.

Superman: Man of Steel is being ‘godfathered’ by Batman Begins and The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan. The screenplay is currently being written by David Goyer, who also worked on the latest Batman films. No director has been announced at present. Nolan’s brother Jonathan may be in the running, which is odd, since he doesn’t have any directing experience. More than likely that’s just an internet rumor, but it is possible that Warner Bros would use him, as he also worked on the immensely popular Batman films.

We keep hearing rumors the movie is about Superman solving a conflict in Africa… sigh.. whatever… apparently the ‘Man Of Steel’ has nothing more pressing to do than stop two tribes from killing each other. Never mind the other issues in the world, rogue countries with nuclear weapons etc.. thanks Superman.

Interesting Fact

The origin of Christopher Nolan’s involvement came when he and Goyer were working on the story for the sequel for The Dark Knight. When they needed a break from Batman, Goyer tossed out an idea for how he would handle a Superman film, which got Nolan so excited that he called Warner Bros and pitched them the idea. He is currently producing, so hopefully some of that Dark Knight magic will rub off on Superman and make it a good film.

Heh. Rub off on Superman.

What’s Good About It?

Nolan and Goyer’s involvement really gives me hope. No doubt lessons have been learned from Superman Returns, and there will be some action, and an enemy that Superman can actually fight.

What’s Bad About It?

There is no better casting than Christopher Reeve. Anyone they get will be a poor imitation at best. Superman may also have lost some of his importance to modern audiences.

Our Clever Prediction

I think we’ll end up seeing the best Superman film since Donner’s from the 70′s. I just hope they do it the way Donner did. No Hollywood anti-America crap. They couldn’t even say, “Truth, Justice, and the American way,” in Superman Returns. I don’t need it to be a flag waving film, but you don’t just turn your back on Superman’s catchphrase. No doubt this will be better than the last, but that doesn’t say much.

And make his suit bright and shiny. No muted colors like in Returns.

I would just like to say as an extremly passionate superman fan i would be more than happy to see Brandon Routh back as Superman. Lets face it we will always see Christopher Reeves as the best Superman and no one can replace him EVER but i think Brandon is the closest match there could be to play him, like Christopher Reeves the actor should be less well known because if they get someone like Christian Bale all we will see is Batman etc etc..But for me the only other logical choice would have to be Tom Welling, after playing Clark Kent for so long i think its only fitting that he should play Superman as this will give the audience believability and means we will be as if we have watch Superman grow from a young man into the Super hero as though we actually were watching the real man himself…sorry if at times i dont make alot of sense but i doubt many will disagree with me but as i said the only people who in my eyes can play Superman are Tom Welling and Brandon Routh.

I am tired of the same old Superman Story. It’s time for Superman to evolve. You have to make Superman relevant to today’s time and age.

    1. We have got to began to move away from this love story crap with Lois Lane. Batman was better when the lady that he loved was lost. I’m not saying kill Lois, but start movie her to the background. If you want them to be in love, married them and get that out of the way.

    2. Cure him of that cryptonite weakness. I’m sick of super hero’s with weaknesses. The reason that we like batman so much is that he has no weakness. I know he’s human, but there is nothing preventing him from continued non-stop action. Plus, if you give Superman a real opponent like Darkside, he doesn’t need a weakness.

    3. Let’s get it own. My favorite Superman movie was Superman II with Christopher Reeves. He fought a guy at a truck stop when he gave up his powers and who can forget the Metropolis street brawl he had with Zod and his two flunkies. Bring that type of intensity and combine it with the way the movies are made today and we could possibly have another Dark Knight named The Man of Steel.

    * forget the Superman returns story.
    * Drop all known associated actors
    * Get back to basics
    * No need for huge special effects,
All they needed in the 70s was superman on wires and it WORKED.
    * forget lex luthor. Bring in a villain that Supermam can have hand to hand combat with.
    * Supermans origins are well known.we don’t need to know any more. If Supermans history is going to be explored make it a tie-in with the new villain, let’s get straight to the action.
