Sin City 2 (2012)

Sin City 2 is the sequel to the incredibly popular original Sin City, based on the graphic novels by comic superstar Frank Miller.

The second film will be based on “A Dame to Kill For.” As the first was extremely faithful to the comic, expect the second to continue the trend, with Dwight contemplating revenge against the woman who betrayed him and Nancy dealing with the death of Hartigan.

Not even close, nice try.

The Scoop

Not a lot has been released for Sin City 2 just yet, although Rodriguez has said he’ll be continuing the series, and Frank Miller is expected to return as well. No word as to whether Quinton Tarantino will direct any part of the film, or whether any other directors will come on board to take part in the series.

One other thing to note is that Rodriguez said at the recent comic con that he wants to make the film in 3D. Of course he does.

Movie Release Date

This keeps changing, but hopefully 2012.

Who’s In It?

Also unknown, but I’d expect Jessica Alba and Clive Owen to return. Brittany Murphy was going to return, but her death may make that difficult. Perhaps they’ll CG her whole performance. I’d just recast with Lindsay Lohan, so that in the third film, we can recast the part again because the actress playing her role has died.

Interesting Fact

Even after crapping out a kid, Jessica Alba is still smoking hot. Of course, her hooha is probably all messed up, but the odds of me seeing it were slim anyways.

What’s Good About It?

The first Sin City was all kinds of awesome, and the second should continue the trend. Rodriguez makes films for next to nothing, so he could churn these out for years. Hollywood loves low budget films that make over $100 million. I can’t imagine why.

What’s Bad About It?

The style has been copied a bit much. 300 was great, but The Spirit blew. With Rodriguez’s help, Miller can direct pretty well, but who knows how much autonomy he’ll have in the film. Plus, Quinton Tarantino may not be back. That would suck.

Our Clever Prediction

I think it’ll keep the quality up and make a ton of money. The original was the ‘cool’ movie that year, much like 300 was a few years later. The return of Sin City will be big news. I expect a big box office and a third film. I also don’t think it’s out of the question to have other guest directors come in if Tarantino doesn’t return. It could turn into a great series for directors to try out stuff they normally don’t do. I just hope Rodriguez’s buddy Eli Roth doesn’t take part.

Whoa. Feels like someone just walked over my grave.

I’m sorry my memory may be quite hazy as I haven’t read the comics since I was a sexually frustrated teenager (incidentally this series of comics showed me that romance isn’t lame at all and can in fact increase your chances of getting laid! Who knew?) but I don’t remember anything of Nancy learning to deal with Hartigan’s suicide. I could be wrong, cause let’s be honest, we’re just looking at the pictures anyway. Love the site by the way and all those people that complained about the America bashing in the Great Gatsby page are the exact type of people who should read the book (although probably to no avail). Keep up the good work!
