Savages (2012)

Savages is Oliver Stone’s next project about Laguna Beach pot growers whose girlfriend is kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel.

The two pals share a girlfriend, cause that’s what pot does to you, and they have a simple pot growing business. Well, apparently border patrols haven’t been doing their job because all of a sudden there are drug cartels messing with these nice two boys.

The girlfriend is kidnapped, and the ransom is every dollar they’ve made from pot for the last five years. They devise a different plan though, one which will get the girl back, get them revenge, and then get them out of town.

I’d just let them have her. Bros before hoes.

Savages

Savages is based on the novel of the same name by Don Winslow, who is also co-writing the screenplay with Shane Salemo. And like I said, Oliver Stone is directing, so it should have some awesome drug scenes like in The Doors.

What’s Good About It?

I don’t much like Oliver Stone, but the guy gets great performance out of his actors, and his films are usually interesting, if a little on the boring side.

What’s Bad About It?

Honestly, a film about how the pot growers are good guys? I’m sure there are a number of real life examples of stoners just trying to grow some weed and getting caught up in the bad stuff that comes with drug dealing, but I just don’t care. It feels a little too much like Blow to me.

Our Clever Prediction

I don’t see a big box office for Savages. But that’s just me, and I’m a genius.
