Madagascar 3 (2012)

Flying Brian Banana Hammock September 22, 2010 3

Madagascar 3 is the (you guessed it) third film in the much beloved (meaning profitable) series about wild animals from that little island off the coast of Africa.

The team of crazy animals is still fighting to get back to the Big Apple. Apparently (I just realized) the first film was about them all being in the zoo and deciding to break out and go live in Africa, which they realize isn’t as cushy as their life in the zoo. Then they save the forest or something.

Anyways, the third film will follow them as they travel through Europe as part of a traveling circus, which they remake in true Madagascar style. Meaning underdeveloped and not as nice as a zoo in New York.

Like Canada!

The Scoop

Not a ton of details have been released yet. Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath directed the first two Madagascar films, but it may only be McGrath returning, or only Darnell. Or both. Or neither.

It could also be someone else entirely. I think that covers essentially every possibility.

You can’t say I’m wrong!

Who’s It For?

Probably PG.

Movie Release Date

May 18, 2012.

Who’s In It?

No official word yet, but I expect the whole cast to return, so…
Ben Stiller … Alex (voice)
Chris Rock … Marty (voice)
David Schwimmer … Melman (voice)
Jada Pinkett Smith … Gloria (voice)
Sacha Baron Cohen … Julien (voice)

Interesting Fact

The main island of the nation of Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world.

What’s Good About It?

I vaguely remember seeing the first one, or at least part of it, and it was GREAT! If a bit unmemorable. No doubt the next one will be way better. At the very least we should get a really annoying trailer out of it.

What’s Bad About It?

Combine the annoyance of Ben Stiller and David Schwimmer, then realize that they’re JUST using their VOICE TALENT. So exciting.

Our Clever Prediction

The first film made about $400 million worldwide, the second almost $600 million. That’s a BILLION frickin dollars. This should do well.

Oh, and it’ll be in 3D, meaning the box office numbers will be inflated that much more.
