Hit and Run (2012)

Hit and Run follows a former mob getaway driver in Witness Protection who goes on the run to help his girlfriend get her dream job. Unfortunately, his former mob buddies find out where he is. Awkward.

As a getaway driver, Charlie was darn good. But at some point he got in too deep and decided to get into witness protection. He lives that way for quite a while, and he falls in love with a gal who wants to leave town for her dream career. Unfortunately, he’s not allowed to leave town, as he might get caught or seen by a former acquaintance.

But he’s a dipshit and decides to go with her, and he’s found by former buddies and has to go on the run. Dipshit.

Hit and Run

Hit and Run is essentially star Dax Shepard’s baby. He’s the star, co-director and co-writer. His real life girlfriend, Veronica Mars or whatever her real name is, is his girlfriend in the film. I get the impression he’s buddies with bad guy Bradley Cooper, as Cooper is slumming it to make this film. It’s just a great time for all!

What’s Good About It?

I love Kristen Bell, and Dax Shepard is sorta funny, at least funny looking. The trailer looks entertaining, and we don’t get a ton of this style of action-comedy blends these days.

What’s Bad About It?

While I don’t hate him, I don’t really think of Dax Shepard as capable of everything he’s doing in Hit and Run. Maybe he can pull it off, but I worry the writing, directing and acting might fall a bit short of success.

Our Clever Prediction

Hit and Run is getting a limited release to start, and I don’t see it getting picked up for a full theatrical release. I think the best they can hope for is that it’s pretty good, makes it’s mostly likely limited budget back, and proves Shepard can lead a film so he can take another step up into a bigger role. It’s possible. Not likely though.
