Here Comes the Boom is a comedy/drama starring Kevin James as a High School teacher who becomes an MMA fighter to help his school avoid cutbacks.
Kevin James plays Scott Voss, a biology teacher who is starting to lose his passion for the job. He was once teacher of the year, but not so much anymore. Unfortunately, his school is losing some of its funding, and extracurricular activities are being cut.
He says he’ll try to raise the money himself. The only thing he can think of, since high school biology teachers are apparently morons who can only think of violence, is to fight in MMA.
This isn’t too far fetched, as Voss was a good collegiate wrestler, so he has a base in a combat sport, but he’s 42, so it’s still a bit of a long shot.
He’s also trying to bang Salma Hayek, so he’s at least smart enough to go after that sweet piece of tail,
Here Comes the Boom
Frank Coraci is directing Here Comes the Boom, and he’s worked with Kevin James a few times before on films like Zookeeper and Click. Kevin James was in Click, right?

What’s Good About It?
Kevin James is a legit longtime MMA fan. His costar Bas Rutten is an old friend of his an a legit UFC champ from back in the day. James has trained a bit of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, so at the very least he’ll know how to look like he knows what he’s doing.
Bas Rutten is also a super funny dude. If you ever watched the Japanese MMA promotion Pride you’ll likely have heard him do commentary, and he was usually kinda drunk and funny as shit.
What’s Bad About It?
This is still a Kevin James comedy.
Our Clever Prediction
I can’t really predict a box office for Here Comes the Boom. I never would have thought any of Kevin James’ films would make a dime, but he’s remarkably successful at the box office.
