End of Watch (2012)

End of Watch is a police thriller about two trigger-happy cops who stumble across a massive drug bust and find a cartel wants them dead.

Just once I’d like a cartel to go after Jake Gyllenhaal. Cause then we’d all get to see how badass he is in real life. I bet super badass. Nothing like how he comes across in this ‘action’ movies.
Anyways, End of Watch follows two cops who have been very close friends for a long time, and they’re pretty gung-ho about their job and getting out there and kicking butt. The film is shot in a really close up, shaky cam style that’s sorta halfway between a found footage film and a documentary. It’s interesting in the trailer, but the old lady next to you in the theater will probably barf up her Milkduds in your lap.
Fair warning.

End of Watch

End of Watch is both written and directed by David Ayer, who wrote Training Day, SWAT, The Fast and the Furious and directed Harsh Times and Street Kings. He has a history of solid police dramas. And The Fast and the Furious.

What’s Good About It?

The trailer and style of filming look pretty cool, and though I don’t always like films about renegade cops who are too badass blah blah blah, the writing pedigree of David Ayer (Again, outside of the masterpiece The Fast and the Furious) is pretty good and should lend a bit more substance to End of Watch.

What’s Bad About It?

Jake Gyllenhaal.

Our Clever Prediction

I don’t see End of Watch doing huge business, but it might not be such a flop. It’s always possible the film makes an impression on critics, garners some award love and is a feather in the cap for outstanding thespian Jake Gyllenhaal.
I spelled that right, right? Thespian? A woman who munches rug?
