The Tree of Life (2011)

Brad Pitt and Sean Penn bring ‘The Tree of Life’ to theaters in May. The movie was supposed to be released back in 2010, but they held off till this summer.

The Tree of Life

The movie is a story of three brothers in which the eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence. The Tree of Life traces the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother does, with the eyes of his soul. She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father tries to teach his son the world’s way, of putting oneself first. Each parent contends for his allegiance, and Jack must reconcile their claims. The picture darkens as he has his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death. The world, once a thing of glory, becomes a labyrinth.

Release Date

The Tree of Life was delayed, and now arrives in select theaters May 27th 2011

Starring

Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Joanna Going, Fiona Shaw

Interesting Fact

Heath Ledger was slated to play the major role in this film but then Brad Pitt took over the role.

The Good

The cast includes Brad Pitt & Sean Penn plus I’m a sucker for ‘coming of age’ movies. I hope it resembles Stand By Me, or The Sandlot. Terrence Malick’s (the Director of the movie) films are known to be good in Cinematography.

Our Prediction

The Tree of Life represents a lot of things I can related to in life. The loss of innocence, tragedy and discovering things about life far too early. I’m betting this is going to be a nominee for ‘Picture Of The Year’, even though the release is somewhat limited.

With the incredible onslaught of poorly written, mind-numbing movies to hit the screens recently, I really hope The Tree of Life thrives. I can’t remember the last time I saw a really moving, impacting movie, but this upcoming film could be the one to finally be the one.

minni: No, Heath Ledger was offered the role, he turned it down. Pitt did not “take over” the role.

Wrong. Heath was indeed signed to play the role of Mr. O’Brien, Pitt took over after his death. Confirmed from producer Dede Gardner. Gardner brought Pitt over after, because they worked together on The Assassination of Jesse James together.
