Red Dawn (2012) – Remake of 1984 Red Dawn

Michael Corleone January 26, 2011 9

The new Red Dawn movie is approaching, we have some details on the remake of this 80′s classic. The delay has been huge for this movie since MGM went broke after production had started on this new Red Dawn movie.

Red Dawn 2012

In the new Red Dawn Movie, the plot remains the same, but the enemy is different now. A group of teenagers look to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers. This is a remake of the original Red Dawn film from 1984 that has had a huge cult following after all these years. Just to clarify, this isn’t Red Dawn 2, but.,. a remake of the original movie with North Korea the enemy, and not Russia, or China as previously was in the script.

Update : MGM is changing the villains in Red Dawn from Chinese to North Korean in order to stay in the Chinese good books, and perform in the box office over there. Plus, China owns most of the United States assets, so why piss them off?

Red Dawn Release Date

Fall 2012 – This remake keeps getting delayed, but we are told its still a 2012 release. How smart was it for them to make this film 2 years ago, and wait until Hemsworth got famous? Amazing luck, or genius move by the studio, banking on Hemsworth being a big star?

Somewhat Interesting Fact

The 1984 version of Red Dawn was Charlie Sheen’s feature film debut.

Who’s In The New Red Dawn Movie?

Chris Hemsworth as Jed Eckert

Adrianne Palicki as Toni Mason
Josh Hutcherson as Robert Kinter
Isabel Lucas as Erica Mason
Edwin Hodge as Danny Morris
Connor Cruise as Daryl Jenkins
Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Lt. Col. Andrew Tanner
Alyssa Diaz as Julie
Brett Cullen as Tom Eckert
Michael Beach as Mayor Jenkins
Will Yun Lee as Major Lo
Matt Gerald as Hodges
Ken Choi as Smith

Interesting Fact

sometime I leave the bar and yell ‘WOLVERINES’ for a reaction. People from the ages of 35 and beyond, get it, the rest of you look at me like I’m an insane idiot. Jokes on you!

The Good

- The original Red Dawn was really good, not that it holds up that well today. However, the plot was really interesting at the time, sort of unique for the 80′s. Also, watching the kids transform from typical 80′s kids to military warriors was cool, at least back then.
- Adrianne Palicki – She is going to be my wife one day, and she doesn’t even know it. Why doesn’t Palicki get more roles, every movie should have a hot blonde, right?

The Bad

Remaking Red Dawn, really? Why? We just know too much about how an ‘invasion’ would be stopped, so the plot isn’t really exciting anymore. Had the new Red Dawn movie taken place in Canada, I’d believe it, but not on US soil. Maybe I’m just being picky about this Red Dawn remake.

just saw the 1984 trailer. I couldn’t stop crying. You CANNOT recreate the feel of the vast wasteland of America back then, esp. in the northwest. Now, WA is like any urban/suburban location. We also all know that patriotism is a farce. but back then, we all ate it up. The pop-up ground scene, the “avenge me” scene, the killing of the teacher intro. All that was pure raw fear & togetherness. NOW….i could care less if they kill my fellow american. most everybody is out for themselves, and most don’t care about my flag anyways, and I became a citizen when this movie came out originally.. screw this pretty boy / hot girl remake. go to hell.
