Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is the fourth film in the mega popular Pirates series. Continuing the story of Jack Sparrow, the new film will venture into new ground without the aid of original supporting actors Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
Johnny Depp will once again be returning to his Oscar nominated character of Jack Sparrow, although this time he will be joined by Penelope Cruz (oh yeah) and Ian McShane, of Deadwood fame. This time round, director Gore Verbinski will be replaced by Rob Marshall, whose most famous films are musicals like Nine and Chicago. Yippee.

The Script
Original Pirates writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio are back to write the fourth in the series, which is welcome news, as the quality of the writing should be consistent. The story is said to follow Jack Sparrow as he meets up with an ex and searches for the Fountain of Youth. Sounds like a Pirates film. Sign me up.

What’s Good About It?
I could watch Johnny Depp play scrabble and be entertained. Jack Sparrow is his most entertaining character, and with the monstrous success of the other three, there will be plenty of money thrown into the budget to make it a must see. Also, Penelope Cruz is one of my five future wives. (more on other wives to come)
What’s Bad About It?
I worry about the loss of Gore Verbinski. He was integral to the first film, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides may suffer because he isn’t directing. Plus, a fourth film? That’s a lot to ask of a character. Looking at you, Indiana Jones!
Our Clever Prediction
It’ll be solid. Make tons of money. Give me dreams about sailing away with Penelope Cruz. I think my nickname for her will be… sugarplum. Wait. Spanish sugarplum. Or spicy Spanish peanut. No. I’m not gonna use the word nut in relation to a woman I’m intimate with. Spanish sugarplum it is.

I look fwd to this installment… I have watched every Depp movie, and am convinced that he is a versatile actor and that he would have the ability to make any role he plays believable and/or interesting… even at the beginning of his career (for example: “Cry Baby” [not very many actors out there that would not have cheesed a person out])…
i agree about watching johnny plauing scrabble, i just love him to, glad he’s doing pirates again, he is so funny, he plays the part well.
johnny does it again with a non swine flu infested Latina it should be good aand Gore’s Oscar should be coming
