My Week With Marilyn tells the story of Marilyn Monroe’s experience filming The Prince and the Showgirl, which costarred Laurence Olivier.

The film is told from the point of view of Colin Clark, who was an employee of Laurence Olivier, and he wrote a couple books later on relating his experience, as he escorted Ms. Monroe around England and gave her a short respite from her fame.

So it’s probably about how they really could have been in love, if not for her fame, yadda yadda yadda. Boobs.

A bit more info about Marilyn at the time. She was recently wed to Arthur Miller, the playwright who wrote Death of a Salesman. He also wasn’t terribly handsome and was probably nowhere near as cool as Joe DiMaggio, who was a badass of epic proportions.

My Week with Marilyn

Simon Curtis is directing My Week with Marilyn, from a screenplay by Adrian Hodges. Curtis has only ever directed TV shows before, but he’s executive produced a bunch of stuff, and he’s British, so he should at least sound smart. We shall see.

What’s Good About It?

My Week with Marilyn has a surprisingly good cast, with Kenneth Branagh playing Laurence Olivier, and Emma Watson, aka Hermione, in the movie! I didn’t think that sexy little wizard would be in another movie, but HERE SHE IS!!!!

What’s Bad About It?

I don’t trust Michelle Williams. I think she’s a good actress, but this is a big role for her. She hasn’t really carried any film, and if her Marilyn impression is anything but spot on this film is going to tank.

Our Clever Prediction

My Week with Marilyn looks like it’s going to get a lot of award love. It’s coming out in November, it has a good cast, and it’s about a Hollywood icon who hasn’t had that many films made about her. This could be big.

And Williams at least does a good job at looking like Marilyn.
