Lincoln is the story of… Abraham Lincoln!! The long in development film by Steven Spielberg is based on the book “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
The book, and presumably the film, deal with Lincoln toward the end of the Civil War and the struggles he was having with his cabinet. Which illustrates both how Lincoln and I are similar and different. We both struggle with cabinets. His consisted of men who were trying to help him end the bloodiest war in American history, mine consists of a handleless mirror containing prophylactics when I’m on a tight schedule. He was all, “Four score and seven years ago…” and I’m all, “No score and seven inches ago.”
Who’s It For?
I think it may go R and really portray Lincoln as he was. When Spielberg makes a drama, he’s doesn’t pull any punches, and I think a realistic approach would be great. That said, the film is about one of America’s most popular presidents. Parents are going to want to bring their kids. It may go PG-13.
Movie Release Date
The film was delayed so Spielberg could make Tintin. Maybe late 2011 or 2012.
Who’s In It?
Liam Neeson… Abraham Lincoln
Sally Field… Mary Todd Lincoln (still only a rumor)
Munich, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, John Adams HBO miniseries
What’s Good About It?
It’s Steven Spielberg making an Abraham Lincoln movie! Even at his least inspired, Spielberg makes Oscar nominees. And he’s shown a passion for this film for the last few years. And what was that other movie that Neeson and Spielberg worked together on? Schindler’s List? Oh yeah.
What’s Bad About It?
Tintin pushes everything back. Lincoln was originally set to come out in 2009, coinciding with Lincoln’s 200th birthday. And the first black president would have been that year, which Lincoln paved the way for. Stupid Tintin, little French kid ruined everything!
Our Clever Prediction
Spielberg’s first purchase for the film will be award polish. After the film sweeps the Oscars, the award will be remade into the shape of Steven Spielberg’s body, but with wings. This movie will be amazing. No, this film will be rad. (I guarantee I’m the first person to call a Lincoln film rad)
And I just thought, in a few years, won’t Cillian Murphy look just like Lincoln? I’m just saying, if there are scenes of a young Lincoln, he’d be perfect.
