Juiced is the story of Jose Canseco, the baseball player famous for his steroid use. The film is based on his book, Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant ‘Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big, which recounted his career in baseball, including his steroid use and many female partners, such as Madonna.
Juiced is being made with the full cooperation of Jose Canseco, who is also producing. Considering his book dealt with the steroid charges head on, expect the film to also, although there may also be times where the film is more apologetic than scathing of Canseco’s abuses, both of women and steroids.
The script for Juiced is being written by Kipp Marcus, and will hopefully incorporate Canseco’s claim to have run the 40 yard dash in 3.9 seconds, which is the fastest time ever recorded. That’s right. Jose Canseco, world’s fastest man. Suck it, Usain Bolt.
Can’t Jose just play himself? Who else could pull it off believably?
A League of Their Own, Field of Dreams. Those were about steroids and baseball, right? And wasn’t there an O.J. Simpson movie?
It has one of the greatest sports stories ever. People are going to be interested in how the steroid abuse is handled, and how it might affect the game. Beyond that, Canseco was a real character. His life story should prove amazing on screen. I hope he has a mullet.
Worry about Canseco’s involvement. He isn’t a movie producer, and probably doesn’t know what he’s doing. Juiced may end up little better than a Lifetime special if it gets bogged down by a crap script, actor, and director.
In the book, Canseco refers to Dusty Baker as an Uncle Tom, and he says Dusty came on to him. I hope both of those make it in the movie. And maybe a scene where Canseco breaks the sound barrier while jogging. And his relationship with Madonna, where she was obsessed with him, and he was indifferent. This is going to be the best movie ever! I’m actually serious. I have very little doubt I will enjoy this film. On what level I enjoy it remains to be seen, but enjoy it I shall.
