I Am Number Four is the story of nine alien teenagers who travel to earth when their planet is destroyed by an enemy alien race.
Blending in with the locals, the teenaged aliens attend high school, but when they find out that the enemy who destroyed their planet has followed them to earth, they must find a way to defeat those hunting them or earth might be next.
Sounds like Superman, only stupid.
Director D.J. Caruso has had some solid films lately, like Eagle Eye and Disturbia. While neither film was really great, and both had some plot flaws, his directing has always been solid, so I’m giving I Am Number Four a few points for him, although screenwriter Alfred Gough has given us Smallville, so it’s not all roses.
The story is planned for a series, as the book the film is based on is only the first of six that have been planned. Six. Wonderful.

What’s Good About It?
The two things this film has going for it are director D.J. Caruso and Timothy Olyphant.
What’s Bad About It?
Star Alex Pettyfer looks like a prick. The story seems kinda bland and by the numbers. Seriously, this is Roswell. Only it’s not on the WB. Or CW. Or whatever.
Our Clever Prediction
I don’t see the box office numbers being all that high. I’m going to wait for the trailer before REALLY passing judgment, because Caruso has some talent, but my preliminary conclusion is that the film will blow donkey nuts and not make much money.
So the trailer is here, and now the previous paragraph makes no sense. So…
(passing judgment now)
It looks okay. Perhaps even… decent.
