Cogan’s Trade is a mobster movie starring Brad Pitt as Jackie Cogan, a mob enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a high stakes poker game that was under the protection of the mob.

Brad Pitt is producing Cogan’s Trade, which will reportedly be shot in New Orleans this year. Not a ton of other details about the plot are online, but it’s based on the book by George Higgins, so if you want to know the whole story before seeing the film, you can read it.

The Scoop

Andrew Dominick is writing and directing the film. Dominick last worked with Pitt on The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford, which costarred Casey Affleck, who is reportedly up for a role in Cogan’s Trade also.

What’s Good About It?

The Assassination of Jesse James was a kinda crappy movie, but it did have an awesome performance by Casey Affleck, and Pitt wasn’t bad in it either, so Dominick can at least get a decent performance out of his actors. I also don’t see enough good mobster movies these days.

What’s Bad About It?

For all the great performances and star power in The Assassination of Jesse James, the film was too long and not very good. Doesn’t bode well for Cogan’s Trade.

Our Clever Prediction

Brad Pitt is a good draw, and the film looks like it’ll be pretty good. So the film should make a fair bit of money. I’m hopeful. I also like boobs. That last part was just a fun fact for all of you.

While boobs are fun to look at they are usually short lived on the movie screen; and the idea of watching my sweet Brad Pitt for two hours is ever so exciting! The Assassination of Jesse James; while somewhat long, did tell a great story, the acting was awesome and the cienematography was beautiful. So I am hopeful about this film. There are never enough gangster movies and James Gandolfini was one of the best; so I’m hoping for a great story and lots of twist and turns. Gotta read the book I guess
