This Halo movie has been a real pain in the butt for everyone involved, but the good news is.. the movie is still a go, and still moving forward.
The Scoop
Yes, the official title appears to be
-
Halo: The Fall of Reach
. It is currently being filmed in Camperdown Studios, Camperdown Road, Miramar, Wellington, New Zealand. When I say ‘currently being filmed’ I mean… the scouting has begun and they are kicking around piles of dirt.
Here is what Frank O’Connor says about the Halo movie.
“We’re going to make a movie when the time is right… We own the IP. If we want to make a movie, the scale of all the other stuff that we do changes dramatically. We make tens and tens of millions of dollars on ancillary stuff, toys, apparel, music and publishing. If we do a movie all of that will grow exponentially. We have some numbers if we do a movie, but it changes everything. It also changes our target and age demographic.”
Who? Frank O’Connor, the head cheese in charge of content for Microsoft Games. He sounds important, but also sort of like a bully, as if he’s saying :
‘ll give you a Halo movie when I’m ready, so stop bugging me…
Here’s another gem from old Frank :
“We have a lot in common with ‘Star Wars’ when it comes to having a big universe, recognizable characters and fundamentally really cool stuff… A lot of studios and film companies and game companies have tried to create [their own “Star Wars”]. But you can’t set out to make a successful franchise on purpose. It has to be something that fans are attracted to and love. There’s only so much you can do to achieve that deliberately. But it always comes down to a great story and characters.”
Let me sum it up for you, they make too much in residual sales to worry about the film for another year. Until they get a toy deal with McDonalds or Burger King, the film will be delayed. All they care about is the licensing at this point, and securing it for the 2012 release date.
Halo: The Fall of Reach
After they crash-land on an artificial ring-world called “Halo”, a navy captain, his surviving marines, and a chemically-and-surgically-enhanced supersoldier named John-117 “Master Chief” must find out what the Covenant, the genocidal alien race they are at war with, are looking for on the ring. However, Halo holds more secrets than either side imagined.
Halo Movie Release Date
Apparently Halo will be made into a movie somewhere in 2012 and Peter Jackson will be in charge. In July 2008, Fox purchased the filming rights after the project was halted in 2006 because finances were cut.
Where Does This Leave Us?
Halo will be made, we just can’t guarantee if its a 2012 or 2013 movie at this point. More info as it rolls our way.
