The award winning film about a disgruntled, racist veteran and his adjustment to life, and others, as his life takes a change.
The Scoop
There’s a few things in life we know are understood. You don’t mess with a man’s family, his wife, his dog..or..his car. Especially a classic like a 1972 Gran Torino, which this young lad mistakenly does.
Disgruntled Korean War vet Walt Kowalski sets out to reform his neighbor, a young Hmong teenager, who tried to steal Kowalski’s prized possession: his 1972 Gran Torino.
Kowalski has two objects important to him: the 1972 Gran Torino and his M-1 rifle from the Korean War. Since he recently lost his wife, and has no immediate family, his car has moved to number one on his list.
I can relate to this, because if my wife left me and took the kids, I’d only have my xbox left. I’d hate to be the man who took my xbox.
Tao (Vang), a teenage Hmong neighbor, attemps to steal his 1972 Gran Torino as part of a gang initiation. After he is caught, the boy is forced by his tradition-oriented family to work for Kowalski in penance.
Kowalski gradually becomes friendly with Tao and his family, learning about Hmong culture. He attempts to protect Tao and his sister Sue from the gang, who seeks revenge on both children and Kowalski.
Release Date
January 9th 2009
Starring
Clint Eastwood
Reminds me of
Every other movie about tolerence, forgiveness, gangs. The Principal comes to mind immediately.
Interesting Fact
The 1972 Ford Gran Torino was available with a 429 CID 385 Series V8 and could hit speeds up to 155mpg. 496,645 units were produced.
Our guess
Gran Torino is going to probably one of the better movies this year. Early releases have had nothing but spectacular reviews, apparently this is Clint’s best performance since Unforgiven.
