A no-holds-barred, ultraviolent car race, set in 2020. This is the sequel to Death Race 2000 from 1975, that featured Sylvester Stallone as “Machine Gun Joe Viterbo”. A remake of the camp 1970s black comedy Death Race 2000 about a cross-country race in the point isn’t which contestant gets to the finish line first, but whom kills the most pedestrians along the way.
Ex-con Jensen Ames (Statham) is forced by the warden of a notorious prison (Allen) to compete in our post-industrial world’s most popular sport: a car race in which inmates must brutalize and kill one another on the road to victory.
This sequel is being filmed in Montreal, and already has Jason Statham { The Brazilian Job , Collateral, Cellular } signed up to star in the film.

Tom Cruise is going to be producing the movie. Death Race originally was set up at Paramount as a Cruise vehicle. The project was among those put into turnaround after the Sumner Redstone-Cruise imbroglio. Sources said that when it heard Race was free, Universal, spearheaded by David Linde, moved quickly to secure it.
