But here’s a story where the keys to victory are intelligence and eloquence, rather than the ability to toss a ball. In the 1930s, Professor Melvin Tolson formed the debate team at Wiley College, a small African American school in Texas. Tolson and his team stood up against bigotry in their small town and became so renowned for their skills they were invited to challenge the Harvard debate team for the national championship.
